Wireless in the Hospitality Industry

The Hospitality sector caters to millions of guests per day. As guests strive to stay connected to offices, customers and family, hospitality operators are focused on ensuring their properties have sufficient wireless service.

“The hospitality industry is a broad category of fields within the service industry that includes lodging, event planning, theme parks, transportation, cruise line and additional fields within the tourism industry.” – wikipedia

As such, the hospitality industry has embraced In Building solutions or DAS to improve the Wireless Service Provider service or coverage within their facilities.  The DAS industry has also placed a keen focus on helping hospitality operators evaluate guest needs and providing wireless solutions.   Because of that, this past summer, several wireless equipment and service vendors joined the HITEC convention, the largest hospitality technology show in the world. The vendors in attendance aimed to showcase their latest technological advancements in line with the fast rising hospitality industry.  Pierson Wireless was not in attendance at HITEC but Pierson Wireless is actively involved with assisting hospitality operators in assessing and addressing wireless coverage.

KEY TAKEAWAYS:

  • Fiber-fed solutions are ideal for hotels because they can support all four nationwide wireless carriers, as well as public safety systems.
  • New digital DAS solutions are creating “turn-key” options for hospitality operators.
  • Hospitality operators themselves are relying on more Cloud services which require sufficient wireless service.

“Hospitality is seen as one of the top five vertical markets for distributed antenna systems, and DAS vendors were a significant presence at the show.”
