Most of us have witnessed the limited age of the Internet. There was a time when the general public couldn’t even muster up a use let alone depend on it for everyday use. But now only two decades later, we cannot see ourselves working ‘off the grid’ for any length of time. Gone are the days where the Internet is a disposable commodity; it has now become a highly valued, interwoven necessity for both personal and business use.

As technology advanced through the years we began to rely on the Internet more and more to keep things progressing. From the creation of simple machinery to the invention of complex equipment, technology was at the forefront.

And as technology marched forward, so has the bandwidth and network requirements needed to support the infrastructure.  Thus, we are witnessing the birth of the next technological marvel, the 5G wireless network.

As of this writing, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is ready to kick start the 5G era.

“5G (5th generation mobile networks or 5th generation wireless systems) denotes the proposed next major phase of mobile telecommunications standards beyond the current 4G/IMT-Advanced standards. 5G planning includes Internet connection speeds faster than current 4G, and other improvements.” ~ Wikipedia

5G wireless network is ready to ‘raise the bar’ on wireless communications for both home and business use.

KEY TAKEAWAYS:

  • 5G wireless networks are up to 100 times faster than the 4G wireless technology.
  • Major Internet Service Providers such as AT&T and Verizon have started 5G testing.
  • 5G testing is in its infancy, with major trials expected next year and early deployment of 5G services in 2018.

“Advanced 5G networks will have a transformative effect on entire sectors of the economy, including healthcare, education, manufacturing, energy, agriculture, hospitality, transportation, among others…”

“If you don’t have access to modern communications today you don’t have a fair shot at prosperity in the 21st century,” said Commissioner Jessica Rosenworcel.
