OMAHA, Neb. (July 14, 2022) – Pierson Wireless has been awarded a turnkey project by the Central Council of the Tlingit and Haida Indian Tribes to design, build and maintain a large outdoor private network solution in Wrangell, Alaska.
The Alaska network is the latest in a series of private network projects featuring a technology alliance between Pierson Wireless and Nokia. The companies recently partnered to create a trio of private network solutions for Texas-based school districts in Dallas, Castleberry, and Garland.
The Central Council’s project will provide wide-ranging wireless internet connectivity in Wrangell, a service they’ve titled the “Tidal Network.” The Central Council was issued a broadband license by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in December 2021, and it has filed a request for access to $50 million in federal grant funding via the Tribal Broadband Connectivity Program.
“Pierson Wireless’ relationship with Nokia and our ability to leverage their products has been impactful to our team’s private networks capabilities, as well as the solutions we’re able to provide for our end customers, such as CCTHITA,” said Ted Cox, Pierson Wireless Senior Director of Advanced Solutions & Design. “It’s exciting to see us providing connectivity where it isn’t present and specifically enabling those who previously didn’t have the ability to work from home to do so.”
Pierson Wireless is delivering two cell on wheels (COW) trailers for the initial phase of the project. The COWs will be equipped with Nokia RAN (radio access network), EPC (evolved packet core), and microwave backhaul gear.
“Nokia has deployed mission-critical networks to over 2,200 leading enterprise customers in the transport, energy, large enterprise, manufacturing, webscale, and public sector segments around the globe,” said Vikas Trehan, head of North America Partner business for Nokia. “And we have extended our expertise to more than 450 large private wireless customers worldwide across an array of sectors. These successes are possible with our valued partners. We are pleased to continue our strong value-added reseller (VAR) partnership with Pierson Wireless to deliver leading-edge digital connectivity in Wrangell.”
