Sr. Director of Operations

    Summary of Position

    Responsible for overseeing all activities across all regions within Pierson Wireless. Directly responsible for the financial and operational responsibilities of the company. Work closely with the Finance team and Regional directors to make goals for the company’s success. Works alongside the teams, from leadership to technicians advancing our customer’s projects, and the company’s goals and long term vision as a leading wireless infrastructure, engineering, and construction company. Responsible for product/service delivery, and per project profit and loss within the Regions. Reports to CEO.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Develops and maintains relationships with customers and industry partners, and resolves issues with same when necessary to do so.
    • Timely addresses the needs and concerns of customers and industry partners.
    • Driving the company’s operating capabilities to surpass customer satisfaction and retention, as well as company goals.
    • Controlling Operational costs and introducing tactical initiatives to address challenges facing the operation.
    • Delegation of responsibilities across the teams to ensure that team members are growing as capable team members.
    • Coaching Employees towards optimization of their capabilities and the capabilities of the team.
    • Assessing and implementing improved processes and new technologies, collaborating with the CEO regarding the implementation of these improvements.
    • Represents Pierson Wireless on the local and national stage by participating in industry related organizations such as Wireless and Industry associations, Chamber of Commerce, etc.
    • Supports the Pierson Wireless’ safety culture by adhering to and enforcing safety policies, and partners with Corporate Safety to research, develop, and implement specific safety initiatives.
    • Reviews and negotiates contracts with customers and industry partners.
    • Ensures that prior to execution, all contracts, general agreements, purchase orders, and subcontracts align with Company goals and business objectives.
    • In conjunction with the Regional Directors, review and approve an appropriate construction budget for each project.
    • Follow the project budget and manage and report on execution of the project on or under budget, and provide strategies early to address any challenges impacting the project.
    • In calibration with the Project Coordinators, ensure that construction schedules are developed, base-lined, monitored and updated.
    • Ensures that project operational plans are developed, implemented, and monitored resulting in financial profits.
    • Ensures adequate staffing of projects is achieved.
    • Ensures staff is trained in and following Company policy and procedures, and staff is equipped with the proper tools and training to perform their duties, take responsibility, and be accountable for the achievement of agreed upon goals and for the success of the entire Company.
    • Ensures quality standards on all projects are being met; and identifies, communicates, and ensures implementation of “best practices”.
    • Conducts monthly in depth project reviews with regional teams, and makes necessary operational adjustments based on actionable information revealed in the project reviews.
    • Assesses and addresses the financial and operational risks of projects being performed.
    • Monitors project cash flow, ensuring projects maintain positive cash positions at all times.
    • Measures performance against and identifies deviations from baselines, such as grand plans, operational plans, contracts, schedules, budgets, safety goals, and quality standards.
    • Reports monthly the Operational financial position of projects to CEO and Company Controller.
    • Reviews and performs intermittent audits of project documentation to ensure consistency with Company policy.
    • In conjunction with the Support Services department, ensures Post Mortems are performed and provided to relevant Operations and Design teams in a meaningful, consistent format.
    • Conducts self in an ethical manner, accepting full responsibility for decisions, actions, and commitments made.

    • Evaluates developmental needs of project foreman, market managers and Regional directors, and promotes effective training.
    • Participates in annual performance evaluations that objectively evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of project foreman, market managers and Regional directors, and provides meaningful feedback to develop their skills.
    • Supports training and development efforts, encourages continued learning, and provides recognition to others when their assignments are carried out well and provides constructive feedback when deficiencies are present.
    • Ensures the development and implementation of strategies which recognize and take advantage of market opportunities that best fit current operational capabilities while utilizing existing assets.
    • Participates in the estimating process to ensure Operations has provided adequate feedback to enable Estimating to produce sound estimates.
    • Participates in bid preparation by reviewing cost development and ensuring that the bid accurately reflects the anticipated costs of the project. Provides input regarding bid margin based on risk, type and location of project.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Responsible for managing at least 4 direct reports (4 regional directors), 12 market managers and the staff below.

    TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:

    • The position requires 50-70% travel and overnight lodging supporting and working with our regional teams.

    TIME REQUIREMENTS:

    • Full-time position which will typically involve 50-60+ hours a week.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or Business or related field.
    • Minimum of 10 years of prior experience in the management of construction companies in positions of increasing responsibility required.
    • Experience on large construction/contracting projects involving complex challenges and multiple teams and resources.
    • Must have proven experience with large projects that have had a track record of being profitable.
    • Displays visionary, strategic thinking.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Google G-Suite proficiency.
    • Microsoft Office Suite proficiency.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT:

    • This position operates in an office environment with frequent travel for meetings and project site visits. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, tablets, phones and photocopiers/scanners.
